I’m The Leader – Not You!

I’m The Leader – Not You!

We all know what it’s like to experience this; you want to go on a nice stroll with your pup, so you put the leash and collar on and go to the front door. Your dog is so excited they can barely contain themselves. You go to open the door and already it’s game over. Doggo takes off almost ripping your arm out of the socket barley giving you time to shut the door. When you catch up and pull your pup back they still are tugging you, pulling you, and dragging you on what’s supposed to be a nice stroll! It never ends, and that’s why I decided to introduce you to another one of Doggy Dan’s training videos.

I love to go on walks! Being outdoors is one of my favorite ways to pass time and being able to go on walks with my furry best friend makes it that much better. Unfortunately, my pup makes it very hard to enjoy walking, and in turn that makes me want to leave her home when I would much rather love to bring her with me.

That’s why I decided to do something about it! I researched ways to help my pup, because helping her is helping me.

Doggy Dan is a very talented dog trainer. His videos are informative plus straight-forward, that’s why I decided to go to him again for my problem with walking. He begins his video by explaining your general collar is not a good tool to train your dog when it comes to pulling. It is only good once your dog is already trained. After he explains this, he introduces us to the “turn in front”. This is basically where you have a good grip on the leash leaving it short but loose. You walk forward with your pup, while turning around in front of them, making sure your pup is behind you while you’re turning around. When doing this it’s very important to make sure your leash is not long and giving your dog free roam! He also makes it a good point to have a relaxed shoulder.

He concludes the video by explaining your dog needs to know you’re the boss inside the house as well or else you will have a hard time training them outside. The video was short and sweet, straight to the point. The dog used in the training video seemed to get the hang out of it almost immediately, and I cannot wait to try this technique on my walk tomorrow.
